- The legend of Paumalu has it that an old woman was granted by royalty the right to fish for octopus in the Paumalu region, which is now popularly known as Sunset Beach on Oahu. She was told she could fish there only if she did not take more than she was allowed. The octopus were plentiful there and she loved the taste of them so much her catch piled beyond what was allowed. It was more than she needed. "Just one more," she thought. In that last attempt to stack her catch high above her necessities, she was attacked by a creature of the ocean. Hawaii will give you all you need, but if you take more-akahele! Beware!
